Game developers obviously need a way to test any individual scene in a game without playing through the entire game to that point. For as long as I can remember, everyone called that “Teleporting.” We even left it in the shipping game, just in case problems arose later that needed debugging, or so I could quickly get around while showing the game to reviewers, editors, demos, etc.

Now, thanks to Charles Bramlett, you, too, can Teleport anywhere with ease. Charles found a list on Mark Seibert's web site. (Mark was producer of LSL7: Love for Sail! and wrote the wonderful Dildo music.)

Preparation

But first, you must do a little preparation. The game looks in your LSL7 directory for a “magic file” named CLASSES (with no extension). It can be zero-length, as long as it’s there. Here’s one way to create it:

    1. Start Notepad.
    2. Type nothing. Just do a “File > Save As…”.
    3. Click the Browse button and maneuver your way into the LSL7 directory.
    4. Name your file CLASSES. Click Save.
    5. Exit Notepad.
    6. Switch to the LSL7 directory. Notice that Notepad conveniently added a .TXT extension for you, which you now must remove.
    7. Right-click on CLASSES.TXT and choose “Rename…”. Erase the .TXT leaving the name just CLASSES. Ignore Windows helpful error message about how this may end life as we know it.
    8. Once that naked CLASSES file is safely tucked away in your LSL7 directory, you can Teleport!

How to Teleport

Anywhere in the game, press the gray minus key (that’s the one on your keyboard’s 10-key pad, not the one near the P key) while holding down both Shift keys. (Yes, I know it’s a stretch, but we wanted something that no one would ever type accidentally!) This brings in the Debug module. Ignore any error messages.

Now, whenever you want to change scenes, type Alt-T. A dialog box will appear. Type in any of the following numbers. ENJOY!
