I am so, so, sorry.

Please allow me to get sentimental for a bit here.

I grew up with Sierra games -- my first was King's Quest for the Mac, which I got for my fourth birthday in 1987. Eventually, I branched out to Space Quest, Quest for Glory, Police Quest, Gabriel Knight, and when I became old enough, LSL. They were beyond pasttimes for me; they were ways of stepping into the role of someone and acting out a story. I remember when Sierra used to be a group of people making great software, when they sent out their quarterly newsletter that made us feel like we knew them. Then, something happened. Sierra became too popular.

Money became the determining factor for Sierra games. They stopped innovating and began following the game industry - this was proven with the failure of MoE. Yosemite became a sort of holy place for adventure game fans. (I actually drove by the old building in Coarsegold) Now, we have the Gaming industry's MicroSoft. Goodbye, Al. Goodbye, Roberta. Goodbye, Ken. Thanks for the memories.

Can a computer game make you cry?

I can barely see the screen.

I’m a big fan, of both you and Larry. Bum wrap about Sierra and all that. Though with any good fortune, and the gods’ undivided attention, maybe something good will happen. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for all the polyester, and the laughs.

Your fan,

Rick

Hello,

I am writing about the cancellation of Leisure Suit Larry 8. I have been a devoted fan since day 1 and I have purchased every game release. Larry Laffer has become an adventure gaming legend. Ask anybody about adventure gaming heroes and I can guarantee you that Larry Laffer will appear on the list. When I talk to people about the game, they usually say “Leisure Suit Larry? Oh yeah, he kicks ass!” If you cancel Leisure Suit Larry 8, you will disappoint a lot of customers who have been playing the LSL series since they fell in love with the balding hero in the first game. I personally am very saddened by these news. I always respected Sierra and I thought they always responded to their customers. If they cancel Leisure Suit Larry 8, they are ignoring their many fans and will lose MANY customers, including myself. Also, with the decreasing amount of adventure games every year, it would seem ideal to release another Leisure Suit Larry game. Adventure fans would purchase it for sure, since it would be almost the only game there. The Leisure Suit Larry series have provided fans and I a lot of laughs and fun. I never thought I was wasting my money buying the games. So I ask of you, please do not cancel Leisure Suit Larry 8. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Michael Montplaisir

SAY YES to Leisure Suit Larry 8! I have enjoyed every LSL game, even way back when LSL1 was DOS!!!!! Many college days in 1987 were spent roaming around "The Lounge. " The windows environment even makes playing the game more fun! I am definitely one that would purchase Leisure Suit Larry. I have told many others about LSL7, and they bought it and played. I am sure they would buy LSL8 as well!

Keep the Amorous Escapades Alive!!!

I went to your official Sierra site to the Leisure Suit Larry section of the site and heard some disturbing news on your message board about the future one of the world’s most popular computer games, Leisure Suit Larry. Actully it read that your corporation Sierra will not continue this series. I’m here on protest against your decision about the future of the series. This game alone has made more sales for each game. Leisure Suit Larry 7 had sold 300, 000 copies to home users with 2 million copies distributed world-wide. Leisure Suit Larry is a popular series, Why? Well I live all the way in Melbourne, Australia and everyone I know and don’t know has a copy of at least one Leisure Suit Larry game.

Leisure Suit Larry is a winning formula, the adult humor and of course “sex sells”. Games are not meant to be just for teenagers and younger with continuing the Leisure Suit Larry series you not only will have sales with a minor amount of the younger audience but you will also attract the adult audience. And I think I speak for all adults when I say 3D Shooters are not exactly favorites to adults.

Please consider and read this message.

Thank You

Joseph Asclepius

Please re evaluate your choice on killing the Lounge Lizard.

He has so many more wild oats to sow. I have purchased every LSL game to date and will continue to do so if you will only release them.

Also I have a kick ass story line that could be produced as LSL9 which will tie up his series and allow the “new” game genre to meet and the old gamers to get reacquainted with Larry’s Great Great Grandpappy Freddy Pharkas(own this as well) thus allowing Al and his crew to begin production on Freddy’s long awaited sequel.

By the way I own through purchase over twenty (30) Sierra and sister company products.

As of Wed, March the 10th, 1999 refuse to purchase or promote Sierra or any other company recently purchased by Sierra.

Please take this as a serious complaint as I am very disappointed in your choice to kill off Larry(especially since polyester, wide lapels and bell bottoms have made a slight comeback).

PS My wife and I are expecting our 2nd child in 4 weeks. If it is a girl we were going to name her Sierra Maris Dafoe. But because of my boycott it looks like we are going to name her Electronic Arts Dafoe. Please save her from years of embarrassment.

Your former #1 gaming fan

This e'mail is to let you know that I would REALLY like Sierra to continue the LSL series! If it is released, I will surely buy the game. Don’t let me and my fellow Larry fans down! Adventure games are the only kind of games that I really like, so if this genre stops existing, I will have to stop playing games on my PC.

Please continue the series! (Besides, there's more in the world than money alone!)

I want you to know that I only buy Sierra games and I do so because I like them very much. If Sierra stops creating the games they are best known for, I will no longer buy them and they will lose me as a client! If Ken Williams finds that Sierra is no longer as he likes it to be, maybe he should start a new company and continue creating the good games in there!

Dear Sierra Company,

I just found out that the Leisure Suit Larry 8 is about to be cancelled. . . please do not make such a terrible mistake! I'm a passionate fan of Larry suite, I own every one of the Larry games and always waiting for the next one. I can assure you that there are thousands of others who need LSL8 - just read comp. sys. ibm. pc. adventure newsgroup! Do not be discouraged by a few negative opinions, the greatest things are always controversal. Larry games strike some chords deeply in the soul - I think Larry represents the inner child in each of us - pathetic and immature, suffering from unsatisfied urges, not appreciated by anybody, but ever optimistic, resourceful and, in spite of everything, successful! The carnival-like atmosphere and Al Lowe's sparkling humor make LSL one of the most pleasant gaming experiences. Please note that I'm a female gamer, so LSL doesn't appeal to males only.

Long Live Larry!!!

Best regards,

Helen

I want Leisure Suit Larry 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All my friends want Leisure Suit Larry 8 and I would pay more than 100 Dollars for this Game. "Leisure Suit Larry 7 Love for sail" was the greatest Game I had ever played. Please allow Al Lowe to make another Larry Game.

Dear recipients.

I have been playing LSL since I could. I legally own the whole series and the series has made me laugh even to this day. I have been looking forward to LSL 8 for quite some time now. I would pay any amount of money to play LSL 8 because I know it can make laugh and challenge me as to what to do next. I would also like to see this series continue because it is the best series that Sierra has to offer.

Thanks for your time,

RYAN

I am a Sierra customer for ten years and have enjoyed purchasing your adventure game products, specifically the Leisure Suit Larry series. I believe game designer Al Lowe is a clever, intelligent and humorous individual and it's reflected in his games, not just Larry, but Freddy Pharkas and Torin's Passage.

As a consumer, a professional in his late 20's, I chose Sierra games above other companies for your high-quality products. I have over ten Sierra games both adventure and strategy, from Civil War Generals to Police Quest: SWAT, to Miniature Golf. Sierra computer entertainment has kept me coming back over and over again. Your games are THAT good.

That is why I, as well as many others, are dismayed with your decision to abandon work on future adventure games, namely Liesure Suit Larry 8 and Space Quest 7. I would pay upwards of $50 for your games. I believe the Larry titles to be commercially successful, and not just with a target market of 20 to 30 something males, but with females as well. Liesure Suit Larry's casino sold to gamers who were fans of the original adventure games, as a way to whet their appetities for future Larry-related releases. Liesure Suit Larry is highly marketable.

Please keep Al Lowe's team in place. Together, they can create adventure games that a hungry public will buy, and thus retain high sales in the domestic and foreign computer gaming markets.

Thank you.

Eric Avedissian

I'm sure you've heard all of the commotion created after the cancellation of LSL 8, KQ, and all of the great other RPG's. There is certainly a market for it, so why cancel it? There are thousands of people complaining, and many haven't even heard about it yet. Please, bring back Larry. . . Larry 7, I was told, sold very, very well (about one and one half the usual rate). And if you're having problems with any other games, it's probably because you did 3-D. . . King's Quest 8, although a great game in its own way, should have never been 3-D. . . Please reconsider your decision. . . there are many other's that want this to change too. . . go to www. roboto. com, or http://catz. interspeed. net. . . I'm sure you're already aware of these sites, but go and listen to the consumers, please. Thanks for your time, and please save Sierra

I am writing in regard to the decision to cancel the Leisure Suit Larry adventure game series.

You have probably received many e-mails like this. I am a huge fan of the game, and ask you to reconsider canceling the production of LSL8. There are so many people who would buy a copy of this game, including myself.

All of the games so far have provided me and my friends with hours of laughs! The designer, Al Lowe, has done a fantastic job with the existing games and made Leisure Suit Larry an icon around the world. .

For the sake of many fans out there, I hope you may change your minds.

Oh my, what a sad day it is. . . must a time-honored computer game legend like Larry Laffer be cast aside, while the programming machine churns out another intergalactic space battle game or fancy-pants 'Doom' clone?

I don't know a thing about the back-room goings on in the computer industry, but I DO know that Larry games are still quite popular. We gaming masses need to have our brains and funny bones tickled by that digital jester, Al Lowe. Oh fie, not another shoot 'em up! Send in the puzzle-laden chuckles, STAT!

I gave up on a whole lot of gaming series, but I've happily bought every Leisure Suit Larry game, and have spread the love to my friends, who have all purchased the LSL Collection. Even as the X-Coms and Quakes of the world coughed up another weary sequel, I found the LSL series to improve with age. (Unlike its protagonist, mind you. ) Lara Croft may be the wave of the future (unfortunately), but we still need the occasional blast to the past.

I like the laughs, the puzzles, the writing, the satire, and Lowe's unique slant on the life of a male bachelor. I like the tone, too. Heck, I even like the hero's snazzy style. (Leisure suits - got to dig 'em. ) Larry has earned a mint in his lifetime. . . . there's no reason to believe that he won't do it again. If you build a quality game, they will come. Lord knows I'll be first in line.

Sincerely,

Morgan

I was browsing the newsgroups and I discovered that you decided to cancel the Leisure Suit Larry 8 because you believe that there will be no demand for this title.

The first adventure game that I played was the Leisure Suit Larry I in my 8086 and now I really cannot believe that you took such decision. If finally you decide to produce the continue of the series then I will buy it and I will try to convince other people to buy it as well.

Please do not repeat the same mistake of the Space Quest Series. . . .

Hello,

The Larry series would have to be one of my favourite all time adventure game series - which includes most of Sierra's other adventure games too. I've enjoyed Larry's adventures from the first until his most recent adventures in Love for Sail! At the end of the game was a promotion of Larry 8, hinting that it would be released last year. Disappointed that it didn't come out then, I was still confident that Al Lowe and the team were working away to produce the best Larry adventure yet.

Now it seems that my hopes are well and truly dashed. I was horrified to read that all further Larry adventures had been cancelled! Why??? This is one of Sierra's most profitable series, and yet it was cancelled? I'm sure many people, myself included would be willing to fork out their hard earned dollars for such an entertaining and brilliantly designed game as Larry 8.

Please reconsider! I'm eagerly awaiting the day when I can go down to my local software retailer to purchase Larry 8! Please ensure that Sierra's classic adventure series lives on well into the next millenium.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew Nicolle (aka raven/tektonic)

My name is Josh Browning, and I speak on behalf of the fans of Leisure Suit Larry here in Ohio. One the first games that I ever got on my family's computer was Love for Sail. I feel that Love for Sail has set the standard for other adventure games to follow, with its puzzles and humor. On the back of the cd case there was an add for Larry's Greatest Hits and Misses, and when I decided to buy the game, I was surprised to find it on the best seller list at the store I went. When I heard about Larry's Casino I told a bunch of my friends about it and we each bought a copy of it and played it all day long.

As you have read my friends, family, and my self are huge Larry fans and when we heard about the nweest one, Lust in Space, we were all in an uprise. Larry in space, now there is an IDEA!! We all began to save up money for the new game hoping to have it come out near the end of the summer. But then I read that the game was cancelled. I was in shock! I could not believe that Sierra would chose to end one of its most anticipated games of the year. So I write to you reader hoping that you can some how tell the peolpe of Larry and bring back Larry and Al Lowe for another crazy adventure that I'm sure will be out of this world.

-Josh Browning (A loyal Sierra/Larry fan. )

I received from your support team an e-mail telling me that LSL8 is not in your planning right now…

You're kidding, are you? I'm waiting for it as a thirsty man needs water, as a hungry man needs food, as a breathless man needs oxygen. . . . etc. . . . don't wanna be pathetic. . . Please, tell me you won't do such a bad thing to all of us Larry fans!

Hear you soon.

Livio

hey guys

LSL is the best adventure series in the whole wide world, me and many others agree. Please keep the series going, I enjoy the crazy miss-adventures Larry gets into and I would love to see a whole lot more. When I beat LSL7 and saw the ending and saw a coming attraction to LSL8 I was like whoa and fell outta my seat saying oh god what a cool game that'll be. let the adventures continue I’ll pay 60 or 70 bucks for LSL8 because I love the series, have good plots and tons of Easter eggs. so please I beg on my knees to all of you please let the Leisure Suit Larry adventures continue and let there be many more!!!!!!

I'm a fan of Larry game & is waiting impatiently for the release of the latest version - ie Larry suit 8.

It's just so fun playing this games esp it's unique & not the "usual" fighting, war strategy, horror games (ie Red Alert etc)

Pls don't let Larry game "die" Thank you

Best Regards

Fan of Larry

Hello Sierra,

I myself has bought every Leisure Suit Larry game out there (and still enjoying them). I am worried that there will never be a Leisure Suit Larry 8: Lust in Space. If Lsl 8 comes out I feel it wouldn't be able to be found anywhere cause it would be sold out. I don't care when I'm 13 I have all the time in the world (well sort of) I would like to see Lsl8. Keep up the good work Sierra and Al Lowe and everyone else that helped in the games.

Thank you

Mike Mains

Hello you all desiders out there!!

I´m seriously thinking NOT to buy more of Sierra games, if you don´t think about makin more of Leisure Suit Larry series!!!! I know you have came up with some ideas about the new LSL8!!

I would like to get agnowledged about it!

Sincerely yours :

Mika Nives Helsinki , Finland

Greetings!

Just to let you know, Leisure Suit Larry has a lot of fans from a long way back. We want another game. And don't let all of Sierra's long running franchises die. This shows a lack of concern and caring for your fans. Any schmoe can do another first person shooter or a rts game. Yawn. It is Sierra known for first class adventure games, especially successful series. And Larry is one. Let Larry ride again.

Thank you for your time,

T. Stone

I just wanted to say that I have been a fan of the LSL series ever since its inception, and I think it would be a shame to let it go by the wayside. If there's any chance to release LSL8, Sierra should take it. We will buy the game!

Dave Ludwig

This page is a way of saying thanks to the wonderful guy’s at SIERRA especially “Al” for doing such a good job in making the best games available on the market today. . . Mr. Lowe you deserve a lot more than what they pay you over at SIERRA. If anyone ever tells you that you need help, ignore them, If all the nasty headed men that had as much talent as you got help there would be many disappointed freaks out there.

Thanks,

your biggest fan.

Al Lowe, writer/director/alter-ego of the series, is a genius, whose innovative techniques have always pushed LSL to the frontier of gaming. Creating such innovative techniques as the icon control (replacing the old typing method which existed before), and without doubt, one of the first to use adult trivia in order to access the game, Lowe has always thought ahead. In his newest creation, Leisure Suit Larry 7, Love For Sail, Lowe again re-invents the medium by introducing his new typing/graphical interface. By combining the two methods, Lowe creates a new method, which no doubt will be the newest craze in computer gaming.

Larry. What can we say about him every one has to love him, every single person has a iner being that wans to be rude, loud, and mouthy, and males want to say obsence things to females well this is how you do it through Larry. I wish AL was here I would shake his hand he has made my life worth living. Everyone knows Al lowe the creative genius behind the Lesiure Suit Larry series but thats not all Al Lowe also made up Freddy Pharkas Fontier Pharmacist another great game and also Torins Passage also a great game. Al you are a genius and deserve credit for all computer games. On behalf of all the Larry fans around the world Thanx Man I love you.

Al Lowe is the awesome creator of Leisure Suit Larry so bow down before him because he’s the MAN of computer role playing games. This guy is a total genius I’m serious. It takes a lot of work to make 6 full Larry games, its got to take like a year just to think up a script and add it to super graphics like in the Larry games. His team must work very hard! And he’s a musician to, ouch! So he probably does allot of the music stuff in Leisure Suit Larry to. This guy is a real cool guy.

This game was programmed by the righteous ‘Al Lowe’ He is, I think, the best computer programmer in the world! (also the OLDEST!)

So Al Lowe and all the other great mind’s at Sierra were fired? Why? I mean, was there any reason at all (Loss of money, going out of business)? And as of now, no LSL8? Man, this totally sucks. Is Sierra going to continue making games? If so, maybe there’s still a chance for LSL8. And whats with the discontinued thing? Does this mean, buy’em now or else they will be gone FOREVER (the LSL games)? Man, I am almost in tears just thinking about it. Well, if Larry is truely gone, we can all asume when he was beamed aboard the sapceship, Aliens did expreiments testing the human reaction when put in a room full of girls just wanting to have sex with you for 100 years. I am sure he would like that.

I just read all that stuff about Sierra letting Al go and I couldn’t believe my eyes. . . The best thing Sierra did and the only thing that brought money and they just cancelled it. . . madmen. . .

I read your section about BLACK MONDAY. Your kidding right? This is a little Pre- April Fools gag right? Your going to tell us tommorow that you were just messing with us. That’s what’s going to happen right?. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You can’t be serious. . . Leisure Suit Larry is one of the best things to happen to me. . . . . I finally have a game I can sit down and enjoy. . . . . . . please tell me your f*cking with me. . . . . . please. . . . . . . . . please. . . . . . . . . . . . . just a little joke your playing right?

It’s hard to believe, one sunny day in Florida, me sitting in my parents office on the old 286 1 Meg RAM, 30 Meg hard drive computer, originally my dad bought the computer for my mom as a present but once the Sierra games filled the shelves on the computer-desk the computer turned into something special, another realm where the unexplored was lurking, and you would come and learn and enjoy yourself in each of the visits you made.

I remember the day, on a weekend we went to Miami to a CompUSA store. My parents said to me and my 2 brothers “go and pick out a few games for the new computer”. I was looking in one section while my older brothers were searching for the games we thought looked the most tempting to play on the new computer. After my mother is at the register and she calls us, we all run up to her with a game box. I had chosen he Leisure Suit Larry 1-3 Collection, I seen the game before and I just had to fill the shoes of Larry Laffer. My Oldest brother returns with Police Quest 2, and my other brother got a racing game. But those two Sierra titles changed everything. Being able to play a cop and solve mysteries and do things a COP does and the atmosphere of the game was just incredible. Playing Larry Laffer was another great time, just nosing around and gambling, its how I learned how to play poker and blackjack and just learning things not to do infront of women the crazy perverted Larry would do. The games touched us in a way we will always remember and cherish. My brothers and I were youngsters (9-11 era) playing and exploring new ways and learning an actually being a cop and playing a role of someone else. I’ll always remember PQ2 and sitting in the car when the game began, the city of Lytton, and just being Sonny Bonds was great and the missions and scenarios you got yourself into. It was just being someone else and exploring new areas. I would give up every game I have today for all EGA/VGA Police Quests and Larry Games that have never made it. They were truly the best and I will not forget them.

Those where the days and eventually the shelf filled up to 40+ Sierra titles. I grew older and when I was at the store all I looked at was Sierra games, because I knew they were the best and I would get something out of the game no other games had.

Sierra was truly the best. I owe allot to the games I played on the computer and enjoying and just roaming around figuring out what to do next. 6-7 years later, computers have magnified into things we would of never knew would happen. The Internet, E-MAIL! I wouldn’t believe it when I was young about having AL Lowe and Ken Williams email me!!! It just shows Sierra left memories and moments nothing else could. In ways we lost all of it this week, the cancellation of Larry8, and Sierra’s future is yet to be scene but will the great mountain collapse cause of all that’s happening?

I know its sad to know we won’t be able to play any more of these adventures, or will we?

I sure as hell know when I’m older I will want to write some games and try and bring Sierra back. My occupation years ago was to work at Sierra. Now to see these titles go and never come back is something I will not live to see, I will try to bring some of the lost , restored or will a miracle happen and some of it be saved?

It is a great shock. I think it's time for a new empire to be born.

R. I. P Sierra On-Line

You Sierra people really are family. No other game designers talk to there fans, but you and Ken Williams have responded to my mails and it feels like you met and Idol. I grew up with your games and your company and to be able to communicate with you is a great honor.

Take Care Al, and thanks for the memories and legends. I hope we can see a comeback sometime.

Sincerely,

Anthony King

When I first heard about Sierra closing some of its studios I felt as though a small part of me was dying. The company that I had grown up knowing and trusting for great games was shrinking away.

I grew up with computers, playing Sierra Games such as Kings Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest and Larry. I always bought the new games when they come out, without a doubt, knowing that I would get a good quality game that I could spend hours enjoying. The games were challenging, fun, made me laugh and overall gave me respect for their creators and their ability to create software that did not only entertain, but left you wanting more.

Now, myself at 22 years of age and also working in the IT industry, I can understand the challenges in producing a product that is going to meet the public’s expectations and hopefully exceed them. I still play games now as much as I did when I was growing up. Should Sierra not continue to create quality games such as the Kings Quest Series and especially the Space Quest Series and LSL Series I shall feel as though a void has been created that has been well and truly filled for so many years.

I feel for the talented people who have now become unemployed as the result of the closures. All I can say, to the score of talented people who have worked at Sierra on all it’s products, is “Be proud to have worked at such a company as Sierra, and know that your talents have not gone unnoticed. But most of all, thanks for all the memories. ”

I totally hear you Al. I went through that in ‘93. . . . . . . . . it’s devastating, however you want to be analytical about it. . . it IS like family, it IS what you have been living for 18 years. Hell it’s part of who you ARE. . . . . can’t help but be. It’s just been so long.

But you know, as ripped up as I was, (and for months!) I finally got to the place where I could look at it as a great opportunity. I mean a place where I HAD to make changes. . . because nearly everybody hates change in their life. But it is exhilarating/scary/thrilling to be out on that edge—trying new things. That’s when all the good stuff happens, creatively anyway.

You are so talented and resourceful and funny and smart. . . you are going to ROCK at whatever you choose to do. . . . just don’t be too hard on yourself right now, and enjoy the space between and don’t panic and run out there and get into something that you don’t LOVE. . . . . . . . . You have a huge support system around you. . . . so many people love you. . . just stay in that good place as much as possible.

I loved the posting you put up about RIP for Larry. that was beautiful!

I agree with you about everything that has been going on with Sierra. Due to the fact I cannot be on the internet always I learned today, Sierra’s going to quit with all adventure games. I still remember when I got my fisrt LSL. I was about 7 or 8, and I got LSLITLOTLL :-) for my birthday, ever since, I enjoyed all the LSL games. I even made a website (http://come. to/LSL) I hope you visit it sometime, and sign the guestbook. It’s a shame that Sierra has discontinued all the adventure games. The only solution could be that the rights to these adventure games could be bought and another company could be set up to continue. I’ll also be on TalkSpot Saturday, if my dad allows me (I’m seventeen now).

Excuse me if my English is bad (I'm from Holland).

Maybe things will work out like they did for Quest for Glory V. If you visit my page, please see the "Notez for Al Lowe Section", I know there aren't many suggestions, but I had some nice ideas you could implement in LSL8 (But hey, who am I to say something has GOT to be in a game, right?)

BlackStar (Danny van der Hofstad)

I just have one small request—I want to know where you end up laughs From Troll’s Tale (a copy of which I found at a rummage sale last year), through the Larries, I have enjoyed your work, and most importantly your humor*grinz*. Maybe I’ll hear from somewhere else, but you’re just too funny a guy too lose in the woodworks. Good luck to you! Thanks for your time. . .

Evan Gee

I am (in an effort to console myslef) making Sapce Quest 7. Completly unauthoized of course. It is called “The Laffer Encounter”. I’m doing it in AGI, and having a hell of a time grasping the code, so it’ll be a while. If your interested in seeing the finished project let me know, and don’t get too mad about my copyright infiringment and plagurism. The story revloves around Roger, who must rescue his beloved Beatrice Wankmiester form a Larry Laffer high on Viagra. You and Ken and Scott all make easter egg cameos. What’d ya think? Pass this on to Scott, because I’m not sure if he get’s my e-mails since he never replies.

What do you think you will do now that your unemployed and Larry is locked up, never to be used again, but who’s copyright is being greedily held hostage? Will you continue with start you own company and make adventures (pleeeeaaase!) , or what?

Al, thanks for all the great games!

Jonathan Timar

Dear Mr. Lowe,

I want to thankyou so much for all the fun you have provided me over the years. I have really enjoyed, and valued the time I have spent with you. It doesn’t have to be the end of an era as far you go. You have a great deal of talent. . . I’m sure you will find an outlet for it.

Thank you!

Lucette

Al,

I have been posting messages here there and everywhere, expressing condolences to all concerned with "Black Monday", but now that I have found your e-mail, I wish to personally express my condolences and thanks to you.

I grew up on Sierra games and especially the Larry games (well, obviously not grew up but when I was old enough!), and I cannot tell you how much joy they brought to me and I still cannot see how this could happen and I am still stunned.

I would like to attend the get-together on March 6th on Talkspot, however, due to living in England, I would not know what time exactly that would be over here. If you could tell me that I'd be grateful.

Once again, thank you and best of luck in the world and I hope you find a way to bounce back from this and bring Larry with you!

Best Wishes,

Matthew Pollard

You're probably really busy answering messages from fans such as myself and posting messages on http://www. roberto. com but I would like to write you for a moment.

First off, it made me very happy that you read my post and actually replied to it. I mean, come on! You’ve worked side-by-side for many years with amazing people like Scott Murphy and Roberta Williams; that’s something I would do anything to do. Hopefully, you will find a location somewhere else, where you will continue to create great games.

Have you considered applying at BioWare? I’m just asking because I live about three blocks away from their headquarters (it’s above a StarBucks, so I go there a lot) and it would be SO COOL if someone like you came to Edmonton and worked here. It’s not too cold here (there is still snow on the ground, but it’s melting. )

P. S. I play trombone at school, and can play a pretty mean rendition of the LsL theme. 8-)

Hey Al,

Sorry to see you go. I only worked with you briefly, but it still was a pleasure. I may have told you this before, still, I’ll just tell ya again. . .

When I was 14, LSL 1 had juuust begun to appear in Germany, few stores had it and even fewer knew how to pronounce it. I bought it for 49 Marks (I sound like my grandma. . . “I bought those shoes in 1936 for $13 which was a lot of money back then. . ”) played it and loved it. Although, I’m pretty damn sure I missed a few jokes here and there, my English wasn’t anywhere near as good as it is now (Ha!). Anyway. the back of the box had a picture of a guy in Hawaiian shirt, big grin. . you know who. . . Aaaanyway, “lucky bastard” I thought to myself, “that dude sits in California somewhere and does nothing but playing computer all day long. ” So what, I ask you, are the chances of me, over decade later, ending up in an office listening to you telling jokes. Pretty damn slim I would say.

So, cheesy as it may sound, I’m grateful for having had the damn luck and privilege to wince at Cybersniff 2000, stare at your birthday cake from the Erotic Bakery and generally, just shake my head. . . “the guy STILL plays computer all damn day long!” :)

Al, all the best to you, like I said, it’s been a pleasure! Just remember, those Germans still haven’t quite gotten the whole Larry thing. . David Hasselhoff, the Golden Girls, Larry. .

Take care!

Quality Assurance, Sierra On-Line

Dear Al,

Well, here’s another one of the strangely bizarre Larry fans, wishing you his condolences of the loss of Larry. Maybe he wasn’t as much of a friend to me as he was to you, but then, that’s understandable. . . if my psychiatrist suggested that a character I had made up was just a ‘hidden side of myself’, then I’d surely feel bad about him dying. Especially the way Larry did.

Well, I think you did the world a favor by not making a 3D Larry game, as was rumored Ken told you to do. (Man, my grammar is off today. ) You stuck in ‘till the end. You have my undying admiration and sympathy. And a standing medical bill, since I’ve fallen on my ass so many times from playing Larry. I even got a major kick out of Torin’s Passage, and I’m 19 years old! (Oh, wait. . . I’m still a kid then. Never mind. I’m excused then, I suppose. )

That's, basically, it. Sorry for your loss. It's heartbreaking for me, too.

Sincerely,

Troels Pleimert

I know times are rough for you as of late, and even rougher for that polyester friend of yours known as Larry. Me and a whole bunch of other Sierra fans are writing letters ‘round the clock, doing whatever we can to keep adventure games alive and kicking into the next millenium. (To quote a line from Quest For Glory 1: “I talk to the trees. . . . but they do not listen to me. ”)

But you’ve probably heard enough about Oakhurst and Grenewetzki as of late. I’m REALLY here to thank you for creating so many wonderful games over the course of your career. I hope the diligent efforts of my friends and I are proof that your life’s work has effected many people in ways you probably couldn’t even have imagined. Anytime one of my crew would say something that was even vaguely sexual (such as: “Man, why is this thing so hard?”), everyone would chime in: “I wish I had a dollar. . . . . ” So we have no lives. So sue us. :)

Well, good luck, and we’ll keep fighting the good fight.

I’m SO SO SO sorry to hear this news, that one of the legends in the entire computer gaming industry is no longer making games. I hope to God that you once again continue what you love most, and wish you the best of luck at whatever you do. Keep in mind one thing, that you have touched millions of people, and left an eternal positive mark on them. You have created marvels, and a character who will always be remmemerd. I wish you luck on any future project, and am waiting anxiously to meet you!

hey guys

I LOVE Leisure Suit Larry, I went to a Halloween party as Larry and they all loved him the LSL collection is the best and FUNNIEST game I have ever played, you have to make the LSL collection continue because if you don’t, the power of the 70s will never return (plus you promised us)

Hello,

I am writing for myself and on behalf of thousands of other Leisure Suit Larry fans to support the continuation of one of the best adventure gaming series there has ever been.

I am aware that the future of LSL is very shakey and that a LSL 8 may never happen!

Do not let this happen, they are great games. . . very funny, testing, great subject matter, each game improves vastly on its predecessor and LSL 7 was fantastic for graphics and sound as well as the overall story and goals.

Support the LSL series and ensure its future success. . . do not disappoint thousands of fans by pulling the plug.

Thank you for your time,

Steven

To Leisure Suit Larry,

I read this morning that Leisure Suit Larry 8 was indefinitely cancelled today. I must admit, personally, that this news comes to me as a bit of a shock.

I imagine there are too many things in life we take for granted; a wife that loves us, a paycheck, good times with our friends, etc. I guess I never really dreamed of a world with out Larry, Larry Laffer. I don’t like knowing that there isn’t going to be another Leisure Suit Larry game. I took it for granted that it would be coming out soon. Both Leisure Suit Larry 7 and Larry’s Casino advertised the coming of an 8th adventure title to the series. I’ve purchased every Leisure Suit Larry product known to man, even the little known or appreciated Laffer’s Utitlities. I am always hungry for new products supporting licenses I love. For Sega, it will always be Sonic the Hedgehog. For Konami, it will always be Castlevania. For Sierra, it will always be Leisure Suit Larry.

I have gone so far as to pay $69. 99 plus tax for the brand new Castlevania opus, which is merely the base of the mountain. The tip is pure frosting covered with a gaming collection that is 500 games strong. I buy all my games when they come out. I pay $40 to $70 easy for the games I want, Leisure Suit Larry is no exception to this rule. I fully intend to support any Leisure Suit Larry product that comes out from now until I pass on, as I assume that all of the other Leisure Suit Larry fans (over 2 million copies sold) will undoubtably support Larry.

The difference, and subsequently the reason that Leisure Suit Larry has the strong fan base that many other games lack, is that Larry mixes with exacting proficiency the elements of adventure, comedy, interaction, story-telling, and inventiveness. Leisure Suit Larry, if I am allowed an opinion, is barnone the best adventure series ever conjured up by any creative team anywhere ever. The plot always keeps you interested in finding out what happens next. The characters are always vibrant, enchanting spoofs of reality that just keep you on the floor laughing out loud. Larry himself has so much personality that he has endured 7 succesful games (save the infamous #4) and many succesful spin-offs such as the recent Casino game. The Larry games are humorous, confounding, fresh, well supported (again 2 million copies sold), and always evolving; all qualities that prove that the Leisure Suit Larry series still has new ground to tread and a large enough audience to sell to. I love adventure games. King’s Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, these are all titles to games that I have been purchasing for years and will, provided they ever get produced, continue to purchase for a long time to come. I hate to see the adventure genre of gaming die. I remember the Sierra ads that would make all of us loyal fans believe that adventure gaming would never die.

I guess 3D shoot ‘em ups and strategy games are winning the war, but I believe that adventure gaming is still a force to be reckoned with. I remember recently being part of a group of a people that wrote a whole mess of letters to Sierra to save the Quest for Glory series, which proved successful. I hope with this letter I am now sending you, and the others you have been and will be getting from the other Larry fans, you will see the amount of loyalty we Leisure Suit Larry fans have and will give Al Lowe the green light to give us what we want so much; a new Leisure Suit Larry game that allows us to support the greatest adventure game making company of all time, SIERRA. I love Sierra. Sierra has the greatest range of games in their pallet, please leave Larry in that pallet. . . it helps add color. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Pat Smith

Five years ago, my shelf was filled with the latest adventure games from Sierra On-Line, along with a few other elite adventure game comapnies that produced quality titles.

Today, those same titles stand alone. Very few of their newborn brothers and sisters from Sierra have joined them; mainly because Sierra, in my eyes, lost it’s focus. No longer do they create games that make you think, games that require a brain rather than quick reflexes.

It’s a sad day when web pages have to start organizing mail-in campaigns to see popular games released. Case in point: Leisure Suit Larry 7 sold over 200, 000, according to many sources. That’s four times as many as last year’s “Adventure Game of the Year”, Grim Fandango. Yet it appears that the next installment of the game has been dismissed. Maybe poor marketing decisions such as this is why Sierra has been in the financial position of late?

LSL8 was just one of many games I was hoping to see in the future. I was wishing for a new Space Quest, and I was hoping that the King’s Quest wasn’t going to be ruined as it was. Sierra lost it’s vision, the one that brought thousands of game players to see them as an idol, a jewel in the computer world.

I’ll be blunt: I hate strategy games. When Police Quest was taken over from Jim Walls, I lost interest. Most of the current lineup repulses me. I feel ashamed to say I once thought Sierra was the best company around. And I have not spent a single dollar on a Sierra product in years, except for the collection packs of the older, more wiser games. I believe you will lose many customers, as you have lost me, from this decision to remove your trademark genre from your lineup.

I hope that I am wrong; I hope that you correct your ways after your restructuring and layoffs. But I strongly doubt that. Am I wrong to think that?

Please reconsider your actions.

Sincerely,

Michael Zier

I think I have a somewhat reasonable plan for the current Sierra situation. Obviously, I’m just some slob who doesn’t know his nose from his elbow, but I’d like to offer my idea anyway. The main ‘thing’ of this plan is having Sierra’s stellar line of legendary adventure games “ride the back burner. ” Sierra would shift its focus to on-line games and 3D shooters, as they are doing now. Their adventure line - with the Oakhurst people rehired - would be a secondary concern, with smaller budgets and less publicity.

Sierra, obviously, does not expect each and every game to be #1 on the sales charts. Some games are made for a smaller market, but can still be profitable. (For instance, Sierra has a bunch of cooking programs, and things like that. I doubt those were made with the word ‘blockbuster’ in mind. )

Roberta, Al, and the rest then continue their series, with less money than is being given to the big-time 3D projects. After all, King’s Quest and Space Quest don’t sell because of cutting-edge graphics or expensive effects. Great adventure games come from the writing and puzzles, not the bank.

With this in place, everything would probably work. The legendary Sierra series would continue on, without great financial risk. If they kept the budgets in check, the loyal Sierra heads and adventure fiends would be enough of a core audience to make the venture profitable. The world at large can fire their weapons like crazy with the next ‘Doom’ game, while we adventurers buy and play our new games in peace. The only real problem I can see is that my favorite designers and production teams would have to take a backseat to bang-bang shoot ‘em ups. But I cannot control the market, and we have to face facts that adventure games aren’t the hot sellers right now. And once the shooter fad phases out, our heros can return from the shadows and share their adventures with the masses again. Until then, the die-hards would keep the faith alive.

Roberta and the rest don’t need a billion dollars to make great games - trust me. I don’t mind adventure games being a ‘secondary’ genre, as long as there is SOMETHING to keep a strong tradition alive.

Thanks for listening. . . .

Morgan

Hello. I am a loyal Leisure Suit Larry fan. . .

It started way back in 6th grade, when my father brought home the “dirty game” that he found hilarious. Since then, I’ve matured, and now almost ready for college (only 6 months to go!). However, I’ve been a serious Larry fan. . . from Larry1 and Lefty’s bar all the way to Larry7 with Larry sinking the sub! I’ve even gotten all my friends (of course, all over age 17, as the box clearly states :) hooked on Larry. No wonder he’s the most popular loser in computer game history!

Enough about me. . . this is merely a message, hopefully among thousands, stating that we want more Larry! I don’t know exactly what’s going wrong. . . if Sierra’s not doing well, or if it’s just Larry. I’ll admit that I’ve always considered Sierra to be the #1 adventure game company. . . and adventure games are the only ones I ever play. . . it started with text-adventures, and then came the Sierra world (Space Quest I+IV, and Kings Quest V being my other favorites). There I go again. . . about me. All I know is, I hate to see Sierra disappear, but more importantly (I must admit), Larry Laffer! So, please keep Al Lowe busy jammin’ with his sax (I’m a sax and pianist myself!), and get another game out. . . I was disappointed when when I finished Larry7 in January ‘99 to see that Larry8 was due in Dec ‘98, but was never released! Or, sell Larry, to preserve him. . . so he can kill himself with laughter in his miserable misfortunes!

Thanks!

-Matt

Hello, Sierra friends, I’m an Spanish player that has felt very sad when he knew the notice that you’re going to kill Larry Laffer ¡ I beg you! ¡ Please, make Leisure Suit Larry 8! Every computer player in the world will thank you, also ¡ It´s a sure inversion! ¡ You will earn millions from that product! Please, give Larry an opportunity so he can go to space. . .

Leisure Suit Larry - one of the best adventure games ever that helped create the PC gaming market. He’s been around about 10 years - starred in at least 7 (incl. Casino) best-hits and now, now u want to screw him ??? NO CHANCE!!! You just can’t do that!!!

You said that the adventure genre is dying - even though Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango proves otherwise. So what is THE GENRE to make a game, another 3D shooter, 3D platform or Strategy? OH WOOPI Look, another 3D shooter, but unfortunately I lost all interest in about the 50th 3D shooter, doom clone that was released. And now what do I have to look forward to ??? Quake 3, Tomb Raider 3, Command & Conquer - The same darn formula over and over.

The beauty of adventure games are just that they’re all the same genre yet are all different! There’s a big difference between Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango yet none between Starcraft and Red Alert. Lastly - You are worried it won’t sell. Well, I can promise you it will, the market is in need of a good adventure. I will be the first to buy LSL8 and thousands of others will follow in my footsteps.

So I ask you please, don’t bin Larry. Get genius Al Lowe back and make Larry 8 - which will be one of the finest gaming hours for Sierra.

PLEASE GO ON WITH LARRY!!!

Sincerely Yours

BadBoyZ ( Biggest-Larry-Loving-Fan-In-The-Universe )

Please we must have LSL8 and then we must have LSL9. It is an adult game that I have enjoyed with my wife. She gave me my first game on Christmas (LSL7) 3 years ago and we thought since we work so much and both enjoy computers why not when we have a hour or so together try to find dancing dildos and Easter eggs. So, I went out and bought the entire collection! We have had many great times with your games. . . . some with them and some just because we both enjoyed the time set aside.

Asking again. . . save LSL8.

Thank you!

Save Leisure Suit Larry! For gods sake! It’s the best Sierra series EVER!

I recently have heard that Al Lowe still wishes to produce Leisure Suit Larry 8, though it was denied by the people at Sierra because it was thought that it would not sell well. I oppose this view very heavily. I know that there are hundreds of thousands of people who would buy the game—possibly millions. Quest for Glory V wasn’t going to be put on the market for the same reason, but thankfully to the hard work of my fellow game lovers, it was distributed, and is now selling quite well in my opinion. I think that the Leisure Suit Larry 8 would sell even better than Quest for Glory V by quite a large margin. Please, I beg of you, don’t let Leisure Suit Larry die a premature death.

There are so many who love the series, and I am proud to say I am one of them.

Thank you,

Jeffrey J. Sherman

What? You’re not letting LSL8 have its place as the #1 funniest PC game ever made?! I have bought A LOT of computer games and overall the Leisure Suit Larry series is the best by far. I have been playing LSL7 recently and told my friends about how good it was (I have a lot of friends)! They all played it and want a copy of the new LSL8. . . . . . . well. . . . . . how can they play this game and see how cool it is if there isn’t any?! If you can just give Al Lowe another chance I promise you all of my friends (including me) will buy it. And just think. . . if ALL of the people I have told this game about wants it than what about everybody else??? Please take my words into consideration and make this game.

Steven Richvalsky

Hopefully I’ll find somewhere to download the full show and keep it as a momento of a great night (or was it morning?). I had a good talk with Catz that night too, the webmaster of “The Ultimate Leisure Suit Larry Site” (it sure is too), I don’t know wether you’ve seen it, but it’s a work of art (wasn’t he the guy on the tram in LSL6? ;-)

I saw that interview of yours in Gamecenter, and I hate to say it, I agree that the future of adventure gaming looks Grim (an’ I don’t mean Fandango either!) :-(. I don’t mind moving into 3D, but what’s with the action elements? KQ8 was poor (Sorry Roberta), but with all the fighting, it was just wasn’t Kings Quest anymore. And even though it’s unlikely to go ahead anymore - SQ7 was going to multiplayer? What was that? Ah well, at least I’ve still got my old Sierra games to go back on. And who knows, maybe with all the action that’s going on with the fans, adventure gaming will be back with a BANG! I hope you do manage to do a Larry 8 as well - there’s still too many women waiting to screw him over and too many embarassing moments for him to have for him to be gone!

Anyway, keep on truckin', don't stop having fun (I'm sure you won't ;-) and hope to hear from you soon!

From Matthew.

Undoubtedly Leisure Suit Larry should be considered one of the most fresh, smart and fun adventure games ever to be created. The increasing quality of the games, as the series continued, and the immense response from the public is a proof that the idea of Leisure Suit Larry is far from dead. For so many years the presence of the sympathetic guy in the white suit, was a sign that good old Sierra was there, respecting the consumers and always having good surprises for the software industry. Unfortunately, rumours, I hope, say that Sierra will stop (or already have) stopped the project for LSL8. I am afraid that this decision alongside with the fact that Sierra has lost its dominant position in the genre of adventure games can be nothing else but harmful for your company. For so many years Sierra meant Larry Laffer, and Larry Laffer meant enjoyment for the customers and profit for Sierra. Halting the Larry series will mean “burning” the “ace” that you had under your sleeve for all these years.

All the best,

Aris Panauyotou

This letter is going to several different Email addresses that I assume might have some pull around Sierra. I am highly disappointed to here that Leisure Suit Larry 8 has been canceled because Sierra feels it will not be a very popular; that the adventure gaming genre is dead. That is ludicrous, and I think Grim Fandango proved that adventure gaming is alive and well. LSL is one of the longest going series in gaming and extremely popular (check a few of the fan pages around the web). The only way it wouldn’t be a top seller is if it were poorly done. Please reconsider your actions and make LSL8 a reality again. If you do I know I’ll be camping outside of Babbage’s the night before it’s release to buy it.

To Whom it may concern:

Many years ago I played my first LSL game. . . the graphics were poor but I found myself very fascinated by the game. I would play for hours just to figure out the next step. I really had a great time playing.

Now playing LSL7, the graphics have greatly improved and we find we just love it.

I was searching for some hints when I started reading about “black Monday” and was vary sad to hear not only that Sierra was being shut down but that we would not see LSL8.

I feel that if there were a LSL8 we would purchase it and we hope that you will re-consider and make LSL8.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I recently heard that you were possibly deceiding not to continue the ‘Leisure Suit Larry’ series. Please understand that I fully intend to purchase and support the continuation of Leisure Suit Larry, and that myself, as well as thousands of other fans desperately seek LSL8. I enjoyed all of the Larry games and feel that Larry has still got a lot more suffering to do before his days are over! So please don’t get rid of Larry, it would be a great sadness for millions of computer game fans everywhere. Best regards,

Joe Lewis

First off I would like to thank you for producing a series of great Leisure Suit Larry games which I have all bought and enjoyed.

I have recently heard that Sierra laid off some workers including Al Lowe and I hope that does not effect the production of another Leisure Suit Larry game. (LSL8) I am positive my friends and I would pay whatever price for LSL8. So if it is about buyers, well I advertise larry a lot, in my city and in my school and I will continue to spread the word about larry because I am sure Sierra, Al Lowe, and the rest of the staff will not let not only me but all Larry fans down. THANK YOU.

A Worried Leisure Suit Larry Fan,

Andres Castano

Hi!

Somebody told me Al Lowe has been fired from Sierra. Is that true??? We all were waiting for Larry Leisure Suit 8. Is Larry now dead? I cannot believe it. Please tell me the truth.

Sincerely

Norbert, a sad fan

To Whom it May Concern,

As I was reading through a message board tonight, I came across on post that informed that Sierra has laid-off several employees. Amongst them was Al Lowe, who is have been a loyal fan of his Leisure Suit Larry Series. Also on that post was a URL to bring me to sign a petition to not only voice my opinion about these lay-offs, but to let you know that when (and I say this because it is too excellent a series to just drop) Leisure Suit Larry 8 is finished and released into the market, I will be at the head of the line to grab my copy. My friends and I have spent countless hours in front of our computers trying to solve these great games, calling each other in the early hours of the morning to tell of the puzzles we surpassed during our sleepless nights. In closing, please reconsider your actions, the Leisure Suit Larry Series, along with Space Quest and all the other wonderful adventuring games from Sierra are what I look forward to each payday.

Sincerely,

Greg Cwiekowski

Hi,

I am a great fan of Leisure Suit Larry and would do anything to persuade you to continue producing more LSL games. He has become a pop icon, and it would be a pity to kill him off prematurely. I am sure that fans, including myself, will gladly pay a good price for any upcoming LSL game.

Sincerely,

Dear Sierra (or what is left of you),

It seems that this whole re-organization thing has been done without thought to what made Sierra great in the first place. I am currently listening to the RealAudio radio show hosted by Ken & Roberta Williams, Al Lowe and Scott Murphy, and from what I am hearing (and have read) it seems that virtually everything that has made Sierra memorable has crashed and burned in this re-organization.

Why? It’s the bottom line, isn’t it? Sierra is being run primarily as a business and it’s needs as a software development house are being ignored. To me that’s like a star athlete severing his spine because he’s tired of all this running.

Titles like the Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest series are the real casualties - the games with the heart that many games of recent times have lacked - and that’s one hell of a tragedy. Reasons like “there are insufficient gamers interested in playing new installments of old games” are completely unfounded, which is what I am writing to say. I am more than willing to shell out $60 (and more) for a new Larry or Space Quest game, and I am sure there are thousands of gamers out there who will agree with me. Shelving classic titles at a time when the technology is present to make them bigger than ever is totally ridiculous. The designers are willing and able, but there isn’t any support for them from management.

There is HUGE support out there for new games from Sierra. I’m sure this isn’t the only email you’ve received professing support for new installments in old Sierra series’, so there is always hope. Please don’t ignore the gamers who have supported Sierra over the last 20 years. Frankly, you owe us.

Sincerely

Deon du Plessis

Long time Sierra fan.

Dir sir/Madam

My name is Chris Halarewich And I would like to express my regret that Sierra has decided to drop the LSL line esp LSL 8, I would like to say that I would be willing to pay $40-$50 dollars for the game if it was brought and I know a lot of other people would to.

Thanx for reading :(

To person who made Leisure Suit Larry,

I am a big fan of Leisure Suit Larry. I have the whole collection such as, Leisure Suit Larry: The Land Of The Lounge Lizards, Larry 2, larry 3, larry 5(you guyz of course know you never made part four), larry 6:shape up or slip out, and Leisure suit larry:Love for sail. I’m also going to buy larry’s casino. I beat the whole game to Leisure suit larry:Love for sail and at the end you guys said that Leisure Suit Larry 8: Lust in space was coming out pretty soon. But now I hear you guys are canceling the whole project. Please don’t destroy larry’s new game. If that game comes out(Lesure suit larry 8) I’ll buy the game right away. I’m sure other people don’t want you to destroy the game as well. I'll be praying that the game will come out soon.

Dear people,

I write because I’m concerned. Lsl has always been my favorite game(even over Playstation’s games). It keeps me laughing--- I’m talking about gut-wrenching, watery eyes, jaw aching, falling-out-your-chair laughing! It’s the only series I look forward every year to purchase. . It’s always challaging (beat dewmi moore in that game was hard!). All in all it just is a great game. So I hope you understand that if LSL goes off the market, it’s going to be a mighty grim day. PLEASE continue the series and hope that you will not have any more problems. Let me know WHEN it’s going to continue so I’ll have something to look forward to!

R. Nious

Don’t let such a great genre go down in flames. I’d love to see a Leisure Suit Larry 8. And at some point, I’d like to see mix of live actors and actresses with our animated hero (I. e. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit “). Or even a CD-rom that brings the lovable swinger to life would be an interesting concept as well, although I know of no actor that could fill the shoes of the greatest lounge lizard of our time.

Please don’t take Larry away. . .

Jonathan Land

Hello. I would like to start off by saying that I am a major Leisure Suit Larry fan. The last thing that my friends or I would want to hear is that The Leisure suit Larry 8 game be cancelled. I would gladly pay the meer 50 or 60 bucks for it. I’m that much of a fan. Al Lowe has great ideas and is one of the funniest people out there. His games keep me laughing out loud and I wouldn’t want to see this series end now. I know I’m not the only person E-Mailing you about this, so I hope you would consider releasing LSL8.

Ever since a few years ago I’ve been one of the biggest Larry fans, I’ve got the whole collection ( except Leisure Suit Larry Casino - which I can’t find in the shops here ). Me and my friends were so excited about Larry 8 - it looked so excellent at the end of LSL7 - I mean space and everything, your imagination could have really run wild with the game. We were so sure it was gonna be one of the greatest games yet - maybe even blowing some life into the adventure genre, and now Sierra canned it. We are so furious! But anyway, thanx for making one of the ( if not THE ) greatest game series ever! I want you to know that I really loved playing Larry and really grew attached to the guy and want to thank you for all the joys that he brought me. And don’t give up hope yet! I know lots of ppl who also loves Larry but doesn’t know ( yet ) of him being canned. We’ll do u’re best to make Sierra see this valuable treasure they’re throwing away.

Thanx a lot Al

Hello. . I’m sure you’re snowed in with mail right now, but I just wanted to write and tell you that yet another fan is wishing you the best. I didn’t find out until last night that there weren’t going to be any more Larry games and that you wouldn’t be at Sierra any more. (my boyfriend was at the game developer conference in California, and he was /supposed/ to get your autograph if you happened to be there, but instead he called me from the airport with that news :( )

Sierra has always been my favorite entertainment software company, ever since I played KQ1 and then, at the tender age of eight, spent some good times figuring out all that 1960’s/70’s trivia in order to play the first Larry game (hey, they didn’t have that pink-and-purple software section back then). Larry’s Casino, Caesar III, Minigolf, et al, have all done their share of contributing to my delinquency these past couple of semesters, but it’s been well worth it. Sierra has always seemed to be the absolute best at anything they set out to do. . and I’m sorry the company has been changed recently.

I heard, though, that it sounded like you were taking a rest for a bit and stepping back to consider your options. . and that at any rate it didn’t sound like you were giving up games. I wanted to wish you the best of luck at whatever you decide to do, although I’m sure you won’t need luck to be successful. ;) Thank you for so many great Sierra titles. . . Larry games (2 & 7 are my favorites) are the best thing ever. .

Sincerely,

Angela Thelen

Since I read that Sierra close Yosemite Entertainment I start playing all Sierra adventures games again.

I think that what they done isn’t fair for the employees and for the fans. I as a fan grow up with those characters and now I will never know what will happen to them.

There are so many open questions:

Who will be the next king of Daventry ?

Does Larry find woman ?

Do we see Patti again ?

What happened to Larry suit Larry 4 ?

Does Roger future will be like we saw in sq4 ?

What happened to Sonny Bonds ?

Does Laura find new storys ?

Why Gabriel family was choose to fight evil ?

What happened to Freddy now that he fights criminal again ?

Does Willy grow up ?

Does Torin find is destiny ?

Who will be the next hero in GFQ ?

What will be the next horror in Phantasmagoria ?

I don’t know why they stop doing adventure games but they must bring our heroes back

I do.

I really can’t say why you want to screw Larry. It’s the Best Adventure game yet (for me) I’m getting sick of all the 3D Shooters and Stuff. . . . There’s too much of the Crap We’re in need of a good Adventure Game. Larry has been around for at least 10 years. Why not go on with the tradition? I have all the Larry’s that’s been published. . . . except Larry Casino. . but believe me. . . I’m looking my @ss off for it , but I can’t find it anywhere. . Al Lowe is a guy with Originality. . . . I would never have thought of such a great game in my Life (Just trying to say good about Al =) ) I ask one more Time. . . Don’t Cansel Larry, if he wasn’t a game character, then he would have been my Role-Model. . Eh Eh

A Faithful Larry fan

Please bring back Al Lowe and co-workers so he can finish the LSL8 product. I have all LSL games from four through seven. These games is very mentally challenging and hilarious. If and when LSL8 comes to the market, I will be the first to purchase the game. I think it was a big mistake to lay off the LSL employees. I think it will be a great travesty if number eight is not produced.

Thanks,

Tom Pittman

(Your # one English LSL Fan)

Hello I’m emailing because I have heard that you guys are planning to discontinue Leisure Suit Larry 8. I think that is a very bad and so does many of my friends. I know that me and my friends have been waiting awhile for the new Leisure Suit Larry and would gladly pay 40-60 or maybe more for Leisure Suit Larry 8. Now many of us didn’t buy the Larry casino but that’s not what we were looking for. We wanted Larry having great adventures with many beautiful girls, with the occasional dirty joke on the side. Any ways that’s all I wanted to say.

I just wanted to voice my opinion just like the thousands of other that I know are upset about the cancelation of the LSL series. One of the biggest trade marks that I knew of was LSL that was the first product that I had ever bought from Sierra and that is the only reason why I kept buying your products. LSL series were unlike any other game because they were very inovative. Now a lot of software companies are going into first person shooters. There are just too many out there and not enough adventure games. To quit persuing adventure games such as LSL would be a great mistake.

Aaron Hambrick

Hello!

I´m a big fan of of your LSL saga, and I was super excited when I heard that LSL 8 was really comming! Then I heard that Sierra canceled the project!!!!! Please don’t do that. LSL has been always a big sucess in my country, and I can bet that LSL 8 won’t be a disillusion! Don’t let me lose this bet!!

Respectably, a fan of Sierra’s LSL:

FireFenix

P. S. : Sorry about errors in the letter, I´m portuguese.

I’ve been waiting for Lust at Space for almost two years now, and you’re trying to say to me that Sierra in fact have cancelled LSL8?

Are they totally crazy? They will have to reconsider their decision: Larry 8 is to be released at Christmas 99, just as promised!

Is there anything I can do? Let me know.

You cannot just stop producing Leisure Suit Larry? He learned me how to use a computer, he's been my friends for years! I need him! Please!

I’m shocked and saddened to learn of Larry’s demise. The LSL games have been a source of joy and amusement for me for many years. I have some ideas on how we might bring Larry back from the grave. These aren’t software or game element suggestions. They’re avenues which may be taken to convince Sierra, or some other manufacturer that LSL is still a profitable venture. I’ll fill you in on these ideas in my next email. In the meantime, keep the faith. Larry will live on, one way or another! Thanks for all you’ve given us over the years.

Sincerely,

Jeff Krouskop

I’d like to respond to some information I just heard about the Leisure Suit Larry-series. It looks like there isn’t going to be another Larry-adventure, because your company fired Al Lowe and because there wouldn’t be enough buyers for the game. I’m sending this E-mail to express my grieve about this decision. Please reconsider it! There are thousands of Larry-fans waiting for a sequel. I’m one of them.

Writing all the way from Belgium (a little country in Europe),

Tom Van Avermaet

Larry fan.

PLEASE BRING HIM BACK!!!

P. S. : I would also like to thank Sierra for al the great adventures they brought on the market.

I have recently learnt that you have so ungraciously decided not to forward the production of the next Leisure Suit Larry Game, “Leisure Suit Larry : Lust in Space”

I, as well as many of my friends and colleagues, am shocked that you have made such a decision. We have all enjoyed playing the Larry games since the first one came about. And we ask you to reconsider your decision.

The Larry games are a saga that needs to be completed, for as you should well know, the last game left a few questions unanswered.

Please reconsider your decision about these much loved games.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel May

I am shocked and saddened by the decision to fire Al Lowe and scrap the Leisure Suit Larry Series. Surely you must realize the number of paying customers you will alienate, and lose, by bringing one of the world’s most popular PC game series to a premature end? There must be a way to keep Larry alive. If you will not rehire Al, then perhaps some other manufacturer will, and you would be wise to relinquish any and all claim to the character of Leisure Suit Larry so that they can go forward with their own Larry series.

There is historical precedent for the right of a creative artist to retain control over characters he/she created and use them in other for-profit ventures. Consider the case of Kevin McClory and “Thunderball. ” The current producers of the James Bond series are not allowed to use the character of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the fictional organization of SPECTRE, or the Thunderball story, because a court awarded those rights to McClory, even though he created those characters/plotlines for a James Bond novel/film. A good lawyer could make the case that Al Lowe owns Larry himself because he created him, and has been the driving force behind all LSL ventures from day one.

I raise this point to ensure that you, in your flawed wisdom, understand what you have done. LSL is too popular to remain in moratorium, and Al Lowe has a fair chance of taking the character to a rival software manufacturer and creating Larry games for them. Wouldn’t it just make more sense to rehire Al and let him finish LSL8? Then, if you aren’t raking in the profits you were hoping for, cut Al and Larry loose. But don’t make the mistake of trying to abort the much-anticipated Larry 8 while there are plenty of other companies out there who’d love a crack at it.

Jeff Krouskop

I’m a huge fan to the Leisure Suit Larry series and I was shocked when I found out that it was not going to be a Larry 8 because it was not attracting enough customers. I want to do everything I can to prevent this. That’s why I took my time to write this letter.

The Larry series is one of the best game series ever and I would be devastated if there isn’t going to be another part in the series just because no one cares. Well, I care! And I also know that I, and a lot of other people, would gladly pay for another Larry game.

Give Al Lowe a chance to prove himself by letting him make Larry 8 the best game ever!

Save Larry 8!!!

//Peter

Hello everyone. My name is Bret Doffing, and I am writing to you about the production of Leisure Suit Larry 8. A lot of people down here in Moreno Valley are hurting because the game will not be created. I’m writing to ensure you that at least 150 people here would buy the game anywhere from $40-$50.

Please reconsider before you trash one of Sierra’s most popular game series.

Bret Doffing

Hi. I am a very loyal Leisure Suit Larry fan. I have all the games, and I still enjoy playing them today. What makes Leisure Suit Larry so great is its sense of humor about life, sex, and everything else that falls in there. I think it is the best game ever made. If you did make LSL8 I would definitely purchase it. Please make LSL8, if you don’t I don’t know what my friends and I will do without Larry. LSL is too young to die.

Thank you,

Lauren Pedota

Top Ten Reasons why Sierra should continue the Leisure Suit Larry series :

10 - Larry is a classic, canning it would be like destroying Sierra's past!

9 - It's one of the adventure game genre's only hopes to survive

8 - Leisure Suit Larry 8 was going to be the best Larry ever!

7 - Think of all the cash you would make thanks to Larry

6 - The public wants/needs/desires more Larry games

5 - I'm sick of 3D Shooters/Strategy/Action/Platform - the boring same formula!

4 - I've got the entire collection but have place for a few more!

3 - Why would you can him anyway?

2 - We got to have Larry - we're addicted to him!

And my number one reason is:

1 - Definition of Larry : Great game that’s made up out of a mixture of excellent game play, graphics, sound effects, ideas, story line and humor. The kind of game the games industry has been waiting for, a game that’s box and manual alone is worth the asking price. A change from the regular and boring genres that can conquer the hearts of millions with the help of that genius - AL Lowe.

Come on Sierra – You’ve just GOT to continue Larry!!!

I want to thank you for all the hours of fun I have had playing the games you have written.

I just learned of the games demise from a web site about LSL. I am glad I just purchased the whole set on cd from Sierra. I still have the orginal floppies but one never knows when they may fail.

I started purchasing Sierra games back in the middle 80’s and have noticed the shift from the personal touch of the orginal group to the inpersonal approach of the corporate giant that it has become, quite honestly I miss the old Sierra.

Again I thank your sir, and I wish you and your family the very best in the years to come.

Sincerely yours,

Steven R. Smalley

I am an avid fan of Larry Laffer from India having played and liked all the Larry games, especially Lsl7-Love for Sail.

But now it pains to read that Larrys future is indefinite and rumor is in the air that Larry , our beloved Larry would be out. . . . . for ever.

There definitely are other similar cheap games. But nothing compares to the gaming thrill of Larry , and nobody but Al Lowe could give it that whiplashing and humor.

So. . . . . please give Larry life and watch him grow stronger. Do not make him the loser that he always is.

Regards

shyamha

Will I get a reply ? ?

Please don’t kill Leisure Suit Larry, I own all seven of his games and no matter how many times I play it I always seem to find something funny I missed the last time.

Now listen I’m only 14 years old I started playing it when I was 8 years old when I played the very first one Leisure Suit Larry The Land of the Lounge Lizards. At that time I couldn’t read anything their trying to tell you. Do you have any idea how hard the quiz was when you could barley read and don’t know the answers at all? Even with all those problems for me it was still the best game I ever played (and trust me I have played a whole lot of computer games, how many? well. . . try about 300) It’s better than space quest 1-6, quest for glory 1-5, kings quest 1-8 its even better than those little Nintendo games like Super Mario. Another thing, what’s another good game that Al Lowe has done? Huh? If Larry leaves than what other dirty game will we be left to play? Please PLEASE PLEASE!!!! Don’t end Larry’s games now at this point his games can only get better. End Larry games when they become so offensive that they become illegal to produce OK?

WAIT!!!!!!

Just hold on, what did you think you’re doing? What do you mean you guys not going to make Larry 8? You must’ve been joking right. Ohhh, I can’t believe if you guys don’t make Larry 8. I’ve been waiting that funny game almost 3 years. Not all that even I change my computer to Pentium so I can play Larry 8 (you know because in Larry 7, the system requirement is so high uppppp). Honest, I change my computer just to play Leisure Suit Larry’s game.

I have all LSL’s game you know, from Leisure Suit Larry 1 (yeah, the one with CGA color) to way up ‘till Leisure Suit Larry Casino. I bought all of your game. Leisure Suit Larry is some kind like ehm. . . . . . ehm. . . . . I think it’s a legend, yeah right a legend. Every people know what’s a Leisure Suit Larry. Hey, I even have a clipping of Leisure Suit Larry. From history to the secret project you guys been working all this years. You know Leisure Suit Larry 8 ehm, ehm, ehm in LUST IN SPACE.

C’mon guys, I’m from Jakarta. You know Indonesia, ah there you go. The capital city!!!!. When I read in the Internet (by the way I always tune up for the Leisure Suit Larry news, y’ know) that you guys wants to consider all over again about making the LSL8, I get shock up. I mean this is nightmare, this is horrible, I mean I never gonna see any new Leisure Suit Larry’s game again. It’s struck me like a cow fall top of me.

I just want to say, you know. All my friends in Jakarta like, nonono o, crazy, nononono, still not right, ehm, ah heck find english word is so hard. They all your biggest fans in Jakarta. We are waiting for Leisure Suit Larry 8. And please, please I beg you, I’m on my knees, I beg you all people that make LSL, please, please make Leisure Suit Larry 8. OHHH, I’m crying here have pity on me, PLEASE make Leisure Suit Larry 8.

OK, I’m gonna have to wait to see that you guys make LSL 8, right. And I’m expecting a very very very very goooooooooooooooddddddddd news from you. If there no respons and I’ll send you another e-mail. OK Keep Up the good work. I’ll always like all your work in Leisure Suit Larry

Charlie Markus Suhadi

SAVE LEISURE SUIT LARRY 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LSL 1 was one of the first Sierra games. it’s one of the games that made Sierra a big company.

Larry Laffer was my friend, my mentor, my spiritual father, He taught me how to pick up girls, He taught me my first English words, He taught me how to party, He taught me how to dress. . . . . . Don’t let him die

SAVE LEISURE SUIT LARRY 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, I have heard that Sierra is closing down leisure Suit Larry which I think is a very big mistake because it is the greatest game I have ever played, I my not be a rich man or a smart man of that being but I have always counted on Leisure Suit Larry to be there when I need a game to be played, I personally have bought each and every single Larry game that has come out (that being Larry 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and also Larry casino games and Pinball). I also have several other friends that think the same way about you closing down Sierra and laying off workers and shutting down the production of yet another Larry hit. And I ensure you if and when Leisure Suit Larry 8 come out I WILL buy it, for it is my destiny and livinghood to see and breath Larry which is one of America’s and Canada’s icon for the future.

God save Larry Laffer

Yours truly,

Justin Hanusz

To whom it may concern,

I have purchased every LSL game that has been realized and have played them over and over. I have also heard a rumor that there were to be no more LSL games despite the fact that it was advertised in LSL7 that there was to be an LSL8. If Sierra is worried that it won’t sell they have really nothing to worry about because there are hundreds of thousands of Larry lovers who will purchase the game. I was disappointed when in 98 when Larry casino was released. Many Larry lovers were expecting another role playing game not a card game thus the product did not sell to well. If Sierra were to bring out another role playing Larry game then I’m sure it will sell very well.

I recently recieved word that the Leisure Suit Larry series may be fading into oblivion. Can it be? I am a huge fan of the Leisure Suit Larry series. I’ve been following his adventures since I was a teenager, back in the days of the Land of the Lounge Lizards. I am hoping (no, I am actually praying) that you continue the series. As a fan and admirerer of the great game, I think it would be terrible if Larry were to disappear forever.

As a freelance graphic designer, I understand the time and effort that needs to be put into a game of this caliber. I also understand that a huge amount of money is needed to go into such a project. As a consumer, if there is another Leisure Suit Larry, I would be happy to purchase a copy on the day of it’s release. I also know of many other people who love this great game, and would be spend thier hard-earned money on the game.

No response to this email is necessary. I just wished to express my love for this game, and my desire for it to continue. Thank you for your time.

Douglas Gallagher

Dear Sierra -maybe I must say ex-Sierra,

I have been a Sierra fan since I was a boy. I have grown playing the Leisure Larry and Space’s Quest series. They are part of my life. Business are not the more important thing. To a company, is good to produce programs that support its loyal fans. If Sierra, or Yosemite or Havas, don’t produce any new graphic adventures, I won’t be interested any more in their programs. People want to see Leisure Larry VIII and Space’s Quest VII!

Please, think about it.

Yours, a Sierra fan from Spain,

Juan Antonio Pascual.

Hi

Leisure Suit Larry 1 was the game that made me an adventure gamer back in 1989. Today 10 years later LSL 1 is still one of my favorite games. Over the years I have purchased almost all of your AGI & SCI adventure games, and I’ve loved them! Especially the Leisure Suit Larry series. Ever since I bought LSL 7 about 2 years ago, I’ve been looking forward to LSL 8!

I’d choose LSL 1 in the original AGI version over all the new 3D extravaganza games any day! They don’t stand a chance against the great stories, worlds, & characters of the REAL Sierra On-Line games. That is the AGI & SCI games produced from KQ 1 in 1984 to LSL 7 in 1996.

PLEASE continue making great adventure games like in the good old days, and don’t tag along on the 3D path like you did with KQ 8.

Al Lowe, we love you!!! Keep up the good work! And the same goes to the rest of the Sierra/former Sierra staff!

There are many other Sierra On-Line/Leisure Suit Larry fans out there! Just try checking out the fast growing AGI & SCI programming communities on the net. If YOU won’t make the games, WE’ll have to do it ourselfs!

Sincerely

Morten Christensen

I have recently heard news about the cancelation of Leisure Suit Larry 8. I have never known anyone to be unhappy with any LSL game. It is an incredable series that should not have to end. I think I speak for the thousands of LSL fans when I beg you to release another game into the series. I have purchased LSL 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7. I would like to add to that collection with #8. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

-A fan

What’s this? I just heard that there maybe wont be another Larry game! WHY!? It’s great, I mean I’ve accomplished it(excuse my English (I live in Sweden)) three times and the third time with a walkthrough just to get everything out of the game and right after I accomplished the game for the first time the most of my friends wanted to borrow it, and why not, it´s the funniest game I’ve played and I am at this moment thinking of buying your larry collection.

So please don’t give up the Larry series, even though it´s not the most well made games but it’s still among the greatest.

So don’t give up yet, have like an advertise in some magazines like PC ZONE or PC GAMER were you can send in or e-mail a vote for a forthcoming (I hope you can say that) of the game.

At least try, or make a big (and I mean WERY big) final game, because you hear promises all the time in love for sail so you should at least give us that.

Thank you.

Mike Stone from Sweden

I am upset to hear that LSL8 has been cancelled. I remember playing the original on my PC XT in wonderful EGA color, I still buy each one of them and play them multiple times. I am at a loss as to whom at Sierra decided to kill the games Sierra is known for, but I have played enough Mech games and I have had my fill of Land Designer. Sierra used to be a company worthy of my money, and could be again if they could bring themselves around and continue the great adventures they are known for (LSL, SQ, PQ (not SWAT)).

Thanks for you time,

George

I believe this game should be made. . . Here is why:

1. The Leisure Suit Larry series is the best in the history of video games. They are hilarious and extremely entertaining. I consider them like mini movies where you are the main character. What could be better?

2. Al Lowe is the Woody Allen of the video game world.

3. Adventure games in general are awesome. They are intelligent, well-scripted and intellectual. Combine that with cheap dick jokes and you get one of the most satisfying experiences imaginable, wouldn’t you agree?

Lastly, Larry is the loser in all of us. He is the guy that tries and fails, the everyman that we yearn to suppress, yet always fall back on in times of distress. He is the living, breathing, unsung hero, they guy who never gets the girls, but NEVER gives up, prevailing time and again through thick and thin as an ultimate testimony to unrestrained perseverence. He is a supergeek among geeks and a damn fine person (for a fictional character that is). . . He is the last hope for the true American hero in a world which is all but devoid of heroes. He is a slapstick panorama, a vestal embodiement of form and figure, an architect of ideals, a motion-setting whirlwind of form and sight, a surreal caricature of the male ego. Best yet, he is slapstick comic, a helpless romantic, and a visionary dreaming despot.

So, this I ask you, pleading on bended knee, please, by the grace of God, let Larry live once more!

Signed,

Lost and Lonely in the Land of Larryless Leisure

If it is true that you are not going to continue with the LSL series, then you are making a mistake. I love the adventure series that you have been putting out since the 80’s. that is when I started playing them on an IBM PC jr. 640k. I have LSL 1-7, SQ 1-6, KQ coll and PQ coll. I am always looking forward to the next one especially LSL. in fact when I go to purchase games I always look for Sierra on line products first. you have put out the best products in my opinion and I sincerely hope you do not ruin that by putting Larry in a retirement home. I realize as time goes by sequels tend to lose their attraction, but love for sail has lost nothing in fact I think it is better than LSL6. you have improved with each one. although I will probably always like the first one the best. at least change the game before you stop it. since he came out in the 80’s wearing a Leisure Suit move him up into the next decade and start the series over from there. at the very least take a poll on your web page and find out how many people want Larry to stay

Sincerely,

Chris Comeau

Hello, I’m a big Sierra fan, and I am writing to tell you of a treasure that you are throwing away and might not even know about it. It’s called LL8. I first got hooked on the LL series by playing LL6 at a friend’s house. I loved it. When LL7 came out in stores, I rushed out and bought it for $45. 95, and when I played it, I found that every dollar was worth it. Later, when I discovered that a LL8 was coming out with better graphics, sound, and challenges, it really just made my day. I eagerly awaited the release of any bits of info about the new game. When I heard it was canceled, I was crushed. Thats why Im writing this letter: to let you know that there are a huge number of fans interested in LL and we would gladly pay up to $50. 00 for it. I hope I have gotten the ball rolling just a little, and I give you my word that I will buy LL8 if it ever makes the stores.

Thank you for your time,

a LL fan

I just got done playing Leisure Suit Larry 7 for the second time because it’s my favorite game series and there isn’t a new one out yet. Imagine my horror when I click on a link from your page to find out you are canceling the series along with Space Quest (another of my favorite series).

I have played every game Al Lowe has made (all the Larry’s, Freddy Farkus, (I was hoping for a sequel to that one also) and Torins Passage). I loved everyone one of them. I was planning on getting Larry’s Casino so I could laugh some more.

I am a woman computer game player and my favorite type of games are THIRD PERSON adventure games. I love the cartoon graphics games of Larry and Kings Quest of past (I also played all of those but won’t buy Mask of eternity because of the change in graphics and action parts). I understand that most of the games out there want either 1st person Myst clones (ugh!) or Action/Adventure games with 3D rendered graphics (double ugh!).

Unfortunately by canceling the games above you are cutting out and already starved group of customers - people (especially women, in my opinion) who what games that will entertain them while challenging them (I think of Larry games as interactive television). When I play a game I do so to escape and relax, not to become agitated and tense.

How dare you assume there is no market for these games! So maybe they aren’t mainstream but does every game have to be a carbon of everything thing that’s out there.

I have been a customer since 1987 - almost every game I have bought has been from Sierra because you were the only ones that made games that I wanted to play. How upsetting to me that you think so little of your customers. I feel I have no recourse but to stop buying any Sierra title (including the Jack games, After Dark, and others).

By discontinuing these great game sequels you have cost your company a customer that spends an average a year of $100 - $150 on Sierra titles! I hope that works for you and your bean counters. A response to this letter would let me know my thoughts have been heard and you are not completely heartless.

Darcy A Biggica-Oleksiak

I give you that information so you can see how many games I've registered

over the years

first of all I would like to tell everyone that created and made Leisure Suit Larry 7 Love For Sail that they did an awesome job and they just about made me and a couple of my friends bust a gut laughing at the hilariousness, that is Leisure Suit Larry. When I went out on a limb and purchased Larry 7 knowing it was an adventure game, ( I didn’t really find adventure games fun, exciting, anything besides boring until I was introduced to Larry 7)and when I got it home popped it in my PC I was shocked at how much I loved it. I played the game around the clock until I unfortunately came to the end, but then I saw it, there would be another Larry game. I was overjoyed, . only to later find that it had been canceled. I would just like you at Sierra to know that I would immediately. please, please allow this game to arrive at home as soon as possible.

Thank you,

one of the millions of Larry fans.

I’m writing to you all in an attempt to shed some light for the future of Sierra Games and in representation of all your fans.

One cannot fathom the reality behind this. Sierra had grown to become one of the greats. I’ve followed the company for almost 20 years now. Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest games have provided me entertainment for countless years, and now this?! Nothing can be done about the firing of almost 200 employees, but something can be done about the future. Continue making adventure games, ESPECIALLY THE LEISURE SUIT LARRY SERIES! You have sold almost 3 million LSL games! How can you say that the series is not drawing in enough money?! I have purchased every LSL game and I am anxiously waiting for the arrival of LSL8. Please make it!

Please don’t take us fans for granted!!!! WE MEAN IT! Something you really don’t want to do is make us mad. I’m not making threats, I’m just saying that what you all are doing is not for the good of the company or us fans. Please. Think this all through. Thank You.

A great fan Sierra games,

David Wells

I was horrified when I heard you weren’t going to continue the Leisure Suit Larry series. I own every single thing related to Larry except for his Casino game. I, along with all of the Leisure Suit Larry fans around the world want Sierra to keep producing Larry!! We are willing to spend $40-50 on a game if it will keep the series going. So give the people what they want!!!!!!!

Hi, I’m e-mailing you to find out where the hell is Leisure Suit Larry 8, Lust in Space??? At the end of Leisure Suit Larry 7, Love for Sail it says “Coming In 1998 Leisure Suit Larry is Lust In Space”. Well now that it’s 1999 I’ve been waiting and wondering where it is. I’m confused as a Irish-man being told to piss in a corner of bucket, and I’m sure that all the other millions of Larry fans feel the same. Ever since Larry 1, The Land of The Lounge Lizards to Larry 7, Love for Sail, I’ve really enjoyed every single second of it and I want that feeling to last. Please, give Leisure Suit Larry another chance. I’m sure Al Lowe and the are the Sierra crew are itching to make another Larry game, and I just hope that they do.

Thanks for your time,

Stuart

I have been a faithful follower of the adventures of Leisure Suit Larry. I have purchased all of the products and love them all. I can’t believe that the powers that be can just let the public hang in the wind without giving us our say!! Should we tell everyone we know to stop buying Sierra products?? Please bring him back!

I have always enjoyed the Leisure Suit Larry Series. I was looking to see when the next would be released and was surprised to find that this series has been discontinued. I am hoping that you change your minds and create another Leisure Suit Larry game, and continue the series beyond that. I will go out and buy LSL8 the day it hits the stores if you do. I have been a loyal Sierra customer since 1988. I owned Space quest II and the whole Kings Quest series for my Apple IIgs, and when older, I started playing LSL games. I have followed Sierra games until now with Outpost I and II, and the Phantasmagoria series. It was because of the Sierra series that I started Computer Programming, which is currently my major at RPI, cause once I played Space Quest II I wanted to create games like that. Please do not let these great series of games end. I want to play LSL8, 9, 10, etc until infinity if you get that far.

A Loyal Fan,

Bob Gendron III

Is it true that Al Lowe has been fired and Leisure Suit Larry 8 has been canceled? IF you have I feel this is a BIG mistake. Leisure Suit Larry games are some of the best in the world (if you don’t believe me, check out the magazine Next Generation, they had LSL in there top 100 games of all time and they had him as one computers gaming’s most well-know mascot. I will be upset if you fired Al Lowe, but I would be infuriated if you canceled LSL8. I like the games, there funny and enjoyable. Please don’t tell me this is true. There are a lot of gamers out there who like Leisure suit Larry. When I say a lot I mean A LOT Thanks for your time.

Ryan Murphy

I was shocked and quite upset to hear my favorite computer game series was being discontinued, I. e. Leisure Suit Larry. there are no games out there like LSL. the only other adult games I’ve found are either pornography or violent slash and shoot ‘em games.

LSL is imaginative, funny, slightly racy, and a lot of fun to play. Please do not end this series.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Koerner

Greetings Sierra, I am a long time Sierra product customer. I have collected mainly Leisure Suit Larry games. I have purchased each and played each to completion. Out of all the games you have released the Leisure Suit Larry series are the most enjoyable, and I know many who will agree. I was greatly anticipating a Leisure Suit Larry 8 and was stunned and greatly disappointed that you are considering letting one of the most original game series invented die. I as a consumer wished to voice my opinion in this matter, I deeply hope you reconsider this action and allow Al Lowe to produce, and keep producing Leisure Suit Larry games. Thank you for your time.

--Keith

I recently shocked when I read that Al Lowe is no more working in Sierra on line. . . . and they cancelled the Leisure Suit Larry series. . . . it’s a very bad notice. . . I began to use PC computers thanks to those games at the end of the 80’s. . . . . first with the police quest 1. . . then Space Quest, and Larry 1. . . . I don’t understand. . . Al Lowe was one of the founders of Sierra, and he was there in the begining of the company. . . . that was a bad, bad, very bad new. . . . anyway, thanks to Al Lowe for the best games in the story of the pc for me (the Larrys and his participation in other games of Sierra). . . keep doing the great work

I have been very surprised to receive an e-mail directly from you. After all, you still have some friends at Sierra, or ex-Sierra, or Yosemite, or Havas, or what-the-hell it is now named.

When I knew about the fires and cancelled adventure games at Sierra, I sent some polite e-mails to all customer services and Sierra ejecutives I could find.

It is a madness. You have been working 20 years on the company, and suddenly, you are fired!

A good ejecutive should know that bussiness are not the most important thing in the sector. Sierra has always been a family, not only between its employers, but between the employers, the creators of the games, and their costumers. The Larry and Space Quest series are part of my live. I have grown playing these games.

The first graphic adventure I played was the original Leisure Suit Larry 1, in 1988. Until then, I had been playing text adventures with static graphics in the european computers, like ZX Spectrum, Atari ST and Commodore Amiga. In 1988, the PC was emerging in my country, Spain, so I only could buy stupid arcade and sport games. A friend of mine said me that there was an american company called Sierra that produced funny text adventures with animated graphics. They weren't distributed in Spain, so I had to import Larry 1 directly from a New York shop! I had to pay 110 $ and to wait a month to receive it! In the game box there was a beautiful book called "Sierra Tenth Anniversary". Here there was the history of Sierra, so I knew about the other series, like King & Space Quest, Iceman, Manhunter. . . I can still see it -well, maybe because it is now in my hands! ;)

After some minutes of play, Larry 1 impressed me. At this time, my english was very basic -like actually, I fear-, so I had to use a dictionary to understand some "crazy" words you used. But the game was very funny, and I couldn't stop playing until I finished it. Then, in 1990, Sierra games were officially translated and distributed in Spain, so I could buy all the chapters. Since then, every time a Larry game come out, I go to the shop and buy it. I don't need to read the review's magazines; I just go and buy it. It is like meeting an old buddy. And I have enjoyed every chapter.

Pleople who think that graphic adventures are dead are stupid. Adventures are about telling a story. Since the prehistoric age, people like to hear stories, so adventures will go up and down, but they will never die. Maybe they must change their face, I don't know. I don't matter if Larry 8 is in 3D. I only want to play Larry 8!

If finally you can make it, I will be the first guy that buy it. But if Sierra make it WITHOUT you, I won't buy it. You and your sense of humor are the most important thing in Larry games.

Well, that's all I want to say. I wish you the best with your new projects. I will visit your web page with regularity.

A fan and, since now, a friend from Spain,

Juan Antonio Pascual Estape

Sierra games

TC Lytnin -- Wednesday, 7 April 1999, at 5:05 p. m.

Personally, I’m tired of all the shooter games. It’s like “oh, gee, look at that. . . I spread yet another demon across a wall. ” Sierra has always had great games that pretty much gave us an out from the normal flow of the game industry. Whether you were tripping through space with Roger Wilco or swinging through the casino with Larry it was always a refreshing break from the real world. Now Sierra officials are taking that away from us? Well guess what? I’ve been anxiously waiting for Larry 8 now for over a year now and to find out that it has been cancelled pretty much pisses me off. So much so that I probably am going to stop purchasing Sierra games until I see it. I here Blizzard and Microprose make a few good games.

What. . . No LSL8?

Leisure Suit Larry 8

Sketch Turner -- Wednesday, 7 April 1999, at 9:57 a. m.

Sierra:

The Leisure Suit Larry games are really important to a lot of people. They give us a chance to not only be a ‘swinger’ for a night, but also to laugh a lot! They are endlessly funny, and I still play all six (LSL 1-7) weekly. Each day I load a different LSL program on. I read the books and am constantly looking for more! I sing the theme song while I shower (I love that music!). I can’t speak for all fans, but I would be willing to spend $100+ on LSL8. Please release LSL8! It would do us all a big favor and give us something to do with our free time.

What will I do without another Larry game? It's the only thing on the market that I feel is worth paying money for! *sob*

SAVE THE ADVENTURE GAMES!!

Jared Wilder -- Tuesday, 6 April 1999, at 7:57 p. m.

Look at all these great series of game, like Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry, that are all going to waste. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!? I guess games and stuff like 3D DECK and MASTER CHEF are going to have huge sales this year. . . YEAH RIGHT. Leisure Suit Larry has to be my favorite game series of all time, and it has survived for oh so long! You can’t just let it die! And what about Space Quest? I guess that game just sucks, doesn’t it? NO!! Goodness, I would pay over 100 dollars to have the next Larry game if it ever comes out, and I personally look up to Roger Wilco as one of the most comedic men in all history! I guarantee you that if you make these stupid mistakes like putting an end to these games then you will lose tons of customers! I promise you that I will never buy another Sierra manufactured game in all my life if I don’t see LSL8 soon, and that is a guarantee! DON’T END IT FOR US SIERRA, GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT!!!

DON'T KILL LARRY

Save all Sierra Adventure Games!!

JDSandara -- Tuesday, 6 April 1999, at 2:43 p. m.

I learned how to type playing LSL1. I learned how to think in new ways with SQ2. And I learned how to be a hero in QG1. How can we allow them to take away games which can spur imagination to it’s greatest hights?! I’ve grown up looking up to all those people who were layed off and now my world is crashing down. Please don’t let this happen. I have always been a true and loyal fan of Sierra games, even when the adventures became easy to solve. We can not allow shoot ‘em ups to rule. Isn’t it bad enough that TV has taken away our minds now computer games will as well. I like a challenge and saving Sierra looks to be the biggest one yet.

Sierra's can't go away

Zeliard -- Tuesday, 6 April 1999, at 2:17 p. m.

I have played Sierra’s game ever since I was 10 years aold. My first game was King’s Quest 1 on an old Tandy 1000 ex. Even today, this is one the best game I have ever played. I own many Sierra games and many are among my favorites. I read in Video Games magazines that Adventure games are missed because Video Games are too much violent or linear these day. Sierra is a great company and it revolutionnize the genre more than once. Just think of King’s Quest 4 with the first game to use a female hero, the first game to use AD Lib sound card. What about Quest For Glory? Fans have been crying outloud for a 5th sequel and the fans have been answered. Please reconsider; do not let Sierra go away.

I think we need more adult, humours, sexy, risky, adventures where the idiot gets the girl. Technology can improve and should improve the play, the story, and the setting but do we do not need lets get maimed by some monster or letts play army or other KILL KILL KILL SCENARIO

Save The Suit

I live for Leisure Suit Larry games. I love it. When I heard Leisure Suit Larry is going down I was shocked. How can you do that to Al Lowe. He’s the greatest quests director and designer. Don’t kill Larry, he’s the best.

I think Larries life is to easy. ‘Larry 1’ took me 3 hours and ‘larry 6’ 4 hours! But, it doesn’t matter. I like it anyway! It’s fun.

Rick.

The more I read the more I feel that there is only one way to make sure Sierra management learns that adventure games must live on. BOYCOTT EVERTHING SIERRA MAKES THAT IS NOT AN ADVENTURE TITLE. This will not destroy Sierra but it will send Sierra management a message.

SAVE LARRY!!! AND WITH HIM THE WORLD!!! a Larry and Sierra from the Netherlands (that tiny spot on the globe with Amsterdam in it)

Save Larry

Jeroen Veugelers -- Monday, 5 April 1999, at 5:39 p. m.

I started playing Larry a long time ago on a 286 from a friend, and after the first steps with this great guy I was hooked to him, but I had to wait. I couldn’t buy one myself back then but the minute I got my first computer, the first thing to buy with it was the LSL series, and after that LSL6 with voices and LSL7 and since this one was a very tough one to get through (without hints) I wasn’t in the need for a new Larry until now. Just recently I bought myself this network-card, to finally get on the web. . . . . only to find out that I may never be able to play a new adventure of the greatest series ever. And now I’m very sad, this just cannot be true, you can’t just let all these people wander in the dark wondering about what it could have been like in a world with Larry. I have played a lot of adventures (also from Sierra) and a lot of them where great, but never ever has there been a better character than Larry. Larry Laffer is not just an adventure character, he’s a way of life. . . and that life can and may not be ended. So directors of Sierra, please change your mind and your policy and get Al Lowe back to work on Larry 8 and make the world a happy one with it.

This can't be real!!

starshadow -- Sunday, 4 April 1999, at 4:22 p. m.

Please save Sierra’s adventure games! They are part of our heritage. The first computer game I played was an adventure game. I was so young my father had to help me type the keywords. Still, I loved the game. Now I’m 19 years old and adventure games are still my favorite. Sierra’s adventure games have always been one step above the others. You can’t really plan to stop creating those games. Please, take back Ken, Roberta and the others ‘cause—they—are the spirit of Sierra. Diablo is good but it’s nothing beside KingQuest, SpaceQuest and PoliceQuest. Remember, adventure games is the first computer game style that really worked. I don’t know if it changes anything but I plan to boycott Sierra games until the situation changes.

P. S. English isn’t my first language so don’t look my spelling and grammar.

Starshadow

Save Sierra!

Juan Antonio Pascual -- Saturday, 3 April 1999, at 5:38 a. m.

A Sierra fan from Spain,

Juan Antonio Pascual.

Sierra On-Line RULES!!! (esp. Larry)

Morten Christensen -- Friday, 2 April 1999, at 5:32 p. m.

I played my first adventure game back in 1989, when I was 11. The game was Leisure Suit Larry!!! I loved it, and over the years I’ve become a huge Sierra On-Line fan. I’ve played LSL 1 so many times that I can complete the game with maximum points while being blindfolded! I don’t like the new interface in KQ 8, but up until 1996 (incl. LSL 7) I’ve loved all your adventure games. Not the Dynamix games. Not Lighthouse. Not Phantas. . . But the REAL Sierra On-Line games: KQ, LSL, PQ, QFG, SQ, Camelot, Longbow, ICEMAN, and all the other AGI & SCI games.

I will happily buy LSL 8, and so will a lot of my friends.

SAVE Sierra On-Line!!!

BACK to the basics!!!

I love Sierra!!

Sierra Fanatic!!! -- Thursday, 1 April 1999, at 10:23 p. m.

Sierra, I just love the games your company has been producing, and am shocked and surprised to hear that Sierra is not producing more games. There aren’t enough out there!! I have grown up on Sierra games. . . seriously. I am 16, and can still remember playing police quest, kings quest and especially space quest ever since I was little. They have been a part of my childhood. I remember coming back from second grade, and saying how I couldn’t wait to turn on our computer so I could play your games. To see you not producing any more games is disappointing and I cannot believe that more games are not going to be made. I sincerely love your games, and hope to see many more in the future

Save Sierra Adventure Games

Save Larry

Erik L -- Wednesday, 31 March 1999, at 1:40 p. m.

Hopefully by now you have learned that there is a large following for Larry Laffer. But there is more to it than sophmoric fun. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great! The Leisure Suit Larry games are more than just that. They are an alternative for those of us who don’t like dragons or armor or swords or Blade-Runneresque graphic adventures. We like an adventure where you don’t die by ugly means every step you take. Surely you can see a market for a light-hearted, comedic adventure game? I close by saying that, yes there is a market! We have 6 Leisure suit Larry games to support this idea already. Show me another comedy-based adventure game that has as long a series.

Save Larry and the others!

Darcy Biggica-Oleksiak -- Wednesday, 31 March 1999, at 12:16 a. m.

I just got done playing Leisure Suit Larry 7 for the second time because it’s my favorite game series and there isn’t a new one out yet. Imagine my horror when I click on a link from your page to find out you are canceling the series along with Space quest (another of my favorite series).

I have played every game Al Lowe has made ( all the Larry’s, Freddy Farkus, ( I was hoping for a sequel to that one also) and Torins Passage). I loved everyone one of them. I was planning on getting Larry’s Casino so I could laugh some more.

I am a woman computer game player and my favorite type of games are THIRD PERSON adventure games. I love the cartoon graphics games of Larry and Kings Quest of past (I also
